Employee benefits in Poland

by Wiktoria Stretskite

Poland has become a haven for IT professionals. The IT sphere in this country is developing rapidly. Specialists from any niche can easily land a well-paid job locally or sign a contract with a remote employer.

Foreign companies eagerly hire IT contractors in Poland because the latter charge a lower rate per hour than their colleagues with an identical level of expertise from the US or Western Europe. You’ll be earning a generous salary by Polish standards and will be able to maintain a very decent lifestyle.

When foreign companies hire specialists from Poland, they don’t have to pay taxes and benefits for them. Plus, their governments don’t require them to facilitate licenses and certifications for their remote personnel. It’s a great way of cutting down expenses and at the same time hiring candidates with the best skills and experience.

All types of offers are rife on the Polish IT market: full-time, part-time and short-term. Contractors often enjoy flexibility in work hours. They strike a perfect work/life balance and have enough time for their families and hobbies.

If your organization needs to hire urgently because of an emergency, it will take you only a few days to find the necessary specialists in Poland. They will be able to join your team immediately.

Employee benefits in Poland for those who work full-time

Independent Polish contractors pay their taxes themselves. No one will compensate for the time that they don't devote to work. Professionals who work full-time in offices get benefits according to the local laws — we’ll list the conditions below.

Annual leave

A vacation can be used as a whole or split into small blocks:

  • Full-time employees who’ve been working for the same company for less than 10 years get 20 days of paid annual leave per year.
  • Those who stay with the organization for over 10 years get 26 days per year.

If a person hasn’t used their vacation days this year, they have a right to carry them over to the following year and use them by September 30.

Maternity and parental leave

The duration of the pregnancy leave for a female worker depends on how many kids she gives birth to or adopts. It’s 20 weeks for a single kid and 37 weeks for 5 or more kids.

Both mothers and fathers can request an additional 32-week leave to take care of the baby. Pregnant ladies are allowed to take a maximum of 6 weeks of maternity leave before the due date.

When a parent is on a childbirth-related leave, they’re paid 100% of their basic remuneration for the first 6 months and 60% for the second 6 months.

Sickness and disability leave

If a professional can’t work because they’re ill, they get 80% of their remuneration. Pregnant ladies who become ill get 100% of their earnings. People who get disabled to a severe or a moderate degree can claim an extra 10 days off work.

Additional benefits

To convince IT contractors to join them, Polish employers offer these extra perks, such as fitness memberships, annual or value-based bonuses and educational opportunities. They can cover the expenses on electricity, Internet and communication for those who work from home.
